HOW TO ESCAPE STALKING OR BEING FOLLOWED
1. Stay calm – don’t panic: The feeling of being followed often causes anxiety, but staying calm helps you think clearly and respond appropriately.
2. Observe carefully:
- Has the person appeared multiple times at different places you go?
- Are they keeping a distance but constantly looking your way?
- Are they using a phone to secretly film, take pictures, or follow you when you move?
- If it happens only once, it might be a coincidence, but repeated incidents are highly suspicious
3. Change your route:
- Make sudden turns into stores, cafés, or crowded buildings to see if they follow.
- Avoid going straight home if you suspect you're being followed – the stalker may want to find out where you live.
4. Call a family member or friend immediately:
- Clearly explain your location and the situation.
- If possible, start a video call or record audio to document the incident.
5. Go to a safe place:
- Supermarkets, cafés, police stations, building security posts, or any crowded place with security cameras.
- Ask for help from security personnel or staff if you feel in danger.
6. Document evidence (if safely possible):
- Photos, videos, descriptions of the person, license plate numbers, suspicious behavior, etc.
- This evidence can be crucial if you report to the authorities later.
7. Report to the police or local authorities:
- If you have specific evidence or have been followed multiple times, report it immediately to the nearest local police station.
- Clearly present the situation and provide any images or videos you have.
8. Check your mental state – is it anxiety or a real threat?
- If you're unsure whether you're being followed or just experiencing prolonged anxiety, talk to a trusted person or a mental health professional.
- Sometimes, the feeling of being watched can stem from sleep deprivation, stress, or mild anxiety disorders – which also need attention and care.
- If you’re feeling genuinely unsafe right now, don’t hesitate to reach out to the police, area security, or trusted loved ones for immediate support.
